The Guyana Fire Service , as an integral part of the public safety and security system, is committed to the protection of life and property from destruction by fire. The GFS also attends to other disaster related emergencies and renders humanitarian services in collaboration with other agencies.
•Guyana Prison Service (GPS):
The primary responsibility of the Prison Service in Guyana is vested in the Minister of Home Affairs. The Guyana Prison Service operates as an arm of the Criminal Justice System. It is headed by a Director, assisted by other essential staff inclusive of a Deputy Director, two (2) Senior Superintendent, two (2) Superintendent, a Superintendent responsible for the training of ranks and the retraining of inmates and an Assistant Superintendent responsible of the Finance Sector.
The Guyana Prison Service is administered centrally with its headquarters located at 46, Brickdam, Stabroek, Georgetown, Guyana.

The Prison System comprises of five (5) prison locations:
- Georgetown Prison
- New Amsterdam Prison
- Mazaruni Prison
- Lusignan Prison
- Timehri Prison
The Prison Service operates within a statutory framework comprising: the Prisons Acts, Chapter 11:01.
•Guyana Police Force (GPF):
The Guyana Police Force was established on July 01, 1839. It is the Mission of the Guyana Police Force in co-operation with the State, the Society, and Citizens of Guyana to provide Service and Protection by preventing and detecting crime, maintaining law and order, controlling traffic, protecting property and preserving the peace through the provision of the highest standard of professional Police Service with absolute integrity and complete dedication.
